Professional Development

At Escape Artists we are keen to support the professional development of people who have an interest in socially inclusive arts. We provide a wide range of programmes and services that are designed to meet the needs of people at all levels of experience: from students to established practitioners.

These programmes and services are also accessible to clients who have completed a Level 2 Progression Qualification and who are within the care of a contractor or other support organisation.

Follow the links on the sub menu to the left to find out more about the professional development services that we have on offer.

Join us on the Social Arts Network

SANe, the Social Arts Network, exists to facilitate communication between people who are interested in the development of socially inclusive arts practice, services and productions. The network is managed by Escape Artists but it is open to everyone and is free to join.

The Social Arts Network

Our Practitioner Training Courses are designed to provide arts practitioners and arts administrators with the additional skills required to work effectively in the area of socially inclusive arts. The courses are run by practitioners who have, between them, many years of experience of working with socially marginalised people.

All our courses are accredited through the Open College Network and are delivered at our London base. However, we can, if required, deliver courses elsewhere. Follow the links for more detailed information.

Meet the Trainers

If you are not ready to sign up for one or more of our practitioner training courses, but you would like to stay informed about future training opportunities, then please fill in the Training Enquiries form (see left), and we will add you to our mailing list.

The following OCN Level 3 courses in arts management are currently in development:

  • Project Management
  • Arts Administration
  • Knowledge Management
  • Fundraising
  • Marketing

and we anticipate that they will available by June 2010.

If you would like to stay informed about our arts management courses, then please fill in the Training Enquiries form (see left), and we will add you to our mailing list.

We have a well developed, accredited internship programme that provides regular opportunities to people who wish to gain hands on experience of working in the field of arts and social inclusion.

Internships usually last for at least three months and we require a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week. We are able to offer the following internships:

Internship
Fund Raising Assistant
Development Assistant - Arts in Criminal Justice
Trainee Company Director
Drama Workshop Assistant
Web Design Assistant
Education Assistant (Cambridge)

If the internship page that you open comes up with message: 'This form cannot be viewed by the public', then it means that the internship isn't currently available. Please email admin@escapeartists.co.uk for more information.

Many people who have worked for us as interns have gone on to find paid work within the organisation. For arts practitioners we are able to provide an internship that will enable you to construct an accredited course in your chosen art form. All interns have the opportunity to gain an OCN qualification in arts administration.

The application deadlines for internships are the last Fridays in January, March, May and October each year.

We recommend that all applicants for internships join SANe (the Social Arts Network). It's a great place for meeting like-minded people and discovering new job and training opportunities.

There are three main areas within which we are able to offer freelance employment opportunities:

  • Training - Could you teach arts practitioners how to run accredited arts courses in open and closed community settings with groups of marginalised people? More...
  • Teaching - Could you deliver OCN accredited courses in prisons, YOIs, the mental health sector, with young people at risk, with homeless people, with ex-offenders or with other marginalised groups? More...
  • Management - While nearly all the people that we employ have been trained through either our internship programme or our practitioner training programme (see left), we do occasionally offer freelance employment to people outside the organisation. Management jobs at Escape Artists are advertised on ArtsJobs.org.uk.

If you are interested in socially inclusive arts, and you are looking for research materials and support, then we might be able to help. Besides information about the work of our own company, we also have archive materials relating to the work of two other socially inclusive arts organisations that now no longer exist (Insight Arts and Creative Exchange).

Please feel free to call us to talk about your research needs.
